What is Research Park?

Science Research Park is a group of high-tech manufacturing firms and research organizations that are located near the leading research university and use the benefits of interaction with the university. Science Park is a mean of forming a system of production and applied research relevant to profile the source of scientific and technological progress and located next to it.

As founder of the first science Research Park is justly called the Stanford University. Since its inception in the late 40's and early 50-s Stanford Park became a place of business, which served as a source of research results of talented scientists from university laboratories. Many of the companies based in the park have become the large multinational corporations. Such companies as Hewlett-Packard (forecast earnings for 2004 - $ 80 billion, printers, printers, and ink cartridges) demonstrates what can be obtained from the Science Park. In the U.S. science research parks initially were slow to develop. But in the 80 years they have started to appear one after another.

Research parks formed near the universities, but independent from them, on the one hand ensure the commercialization of scientific developments, and provide additional income for teachers and students. On the other hand, creating structure of commercial activities, prevent over-commercialization of the universities themselves.
